Daniel Kim, CFA
Chief Executive Officer, Chief Investment Officer
Daniel oversees management, portfolio construction, and investment strategy at Blackcrane Capital, LLC. Prior to forming Blackcrane, Daniel was the former Portfolio Manager, Director of Research, and partner of Mastholm Asset Management, LLC. Prior to Mastholm, he worked in the corporate finance division of Samsung Electronics at the headquarters in Seoul, Korea. Daniel received a Bachelor of Science in Operations Research & Industrial Engineering from Cornell University, and a Master of Engineering in Financial Engineering, also from Cornell.
Aaron Bower, CFA
Associate Portfolio Manager, Chief Compliance Officer
Aaron is responsible for generating investment ideas, research analysis, risk management, portfolio analytics and compliance. Prior to Blackcrane, Aaron was an Investment Analyst and partner of Mastholm Asset Management, LLC. Aaron has over 11 years of experience in the investment management industry. Aaron graduated cum laude from the University of Washington, receiving a Bachelor of Arts with distinction in Business Administration and concentration in Finance.
Michelle H. Kim
Michelle is responsible for managing the company’s accounting, back office, administration, and various other operational functions. Prior to joining Blackcrane in 2012, Michelle worked at Prudential Financial as a Private Wealth Manager. Michelle also has over six years of experience as Operations Director of a retail services chain. Michelle graduated from the University of Washington, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and concentration in Finance.
Victor S. Lee
Victor is responsible for monitoring the portfolio and supporting the investment team at Blackcrane. He previously worked as an Investment Associate at HI Asset Management, an investment company managing fund of funds and direct investments. He also has experience as an Investment Manager working for RG Asset Management, a commodity focused asset management firm. Victor received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, and a Master of Public Administration from Cornell University. Victor joined Blackcrane September 2012.
Claire X. Cheng
Claire is responsible for generating investment ideas, research analysis, portfolio analytics, and supporting the research team. Claire has experience in equity investment research, as well as an actuarial analyst. Claire received a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Economics from Cornell University, and a Master of Arts in Economics from Georgetown University. Claire has been with the firm since 2014.
Kevin Lin, CFA, FRM
Kevin is responsible for generating investment ideas, research analysis, portfolio analytics, and supporting the research team. Kevin has held multiple research positions in the investment industry, including Sansome Partners, UBS Global Asset Management, and Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Kevin graduated with honors from Columbia University, receiving a Master of Business Administration in the Value Investing Program, as well as Stanford University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. Kevin joined Blackcrane in May 2016.
Bryce L. Peters
Bryce is responsible for managing the firm’s operations in areas including portfolio accounting, compliance, and client service. Prior to joining Blackcrane in 2017, Bryce served as Supervisor as well as Senior Fund Administrator at ALPS Fund Services, where he led efforts involving audit, reconciliation, and portfolio accounting. Bryce graduated from Washington State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and a major in Finance.
Joel is responsible for generating investment ideas, research analysis, portfolio analytics, and supporting the research team. Prior to joining Blackcrane in 2017, Joel most recently served as analyst at Balyasny Asset Management, a long/short equity fund. He started his investment career at JP Morgan, where he served as analyst covering emerging market credit. Joel finished first in his class at Columbia University, graduating summa cum laude, while majoring in Math and Economics.
